Steve

I am aware of regulatory activity in other US cities and as a result I met with them personally before licensing and made clear that their operation must be run in accordance with the regulations and I received assurances that it would. If it transpires not to be the case then action will be taken.

In my discussions I also suggested that if, indeed, they are going to be a fully licensed responsible operator they may wish to contact the Steve Wright at the LPCHA or Eddie at the Private Hire Board to become members.

Hello John,.

Thank you for your kind email.

My understanding is the same however I was concerned when I read the following:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57493358-93/uber-boston-promises-to-fight-cease-and-desist-order/

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/mike-debonis/post/uber-car-service-runs-afoul-of-dc-taxi-commission/2012/01/11/gIQAxH3UrP_blog.html

Naturally I was keen to get others opinion.

They are a licensed PH Operator, have physical offices and based on our dialogue and interaction to date are satisfied they are taking and despatching bookings in accordance with the regulations.

Subject: Uber – Unusual Operation

I was sent this blog by a contact on LinkedIn.

Personally we were contacted by these individuals seeking an operator to
bootstrap their bookings.

A driver who subcontracts to me tells me they are using operators to sub out
their work however the driver does not know the destination before he picks
up.

Personally I was under the impression bookings had to have some structure
for record keeping purposes.

This seems nothing more than a back door way of offering upscale black
taxis.
