Letter to Stephen Greenhalgh and Bernard Hogan-Howe on DBS issues in London

We wrote the following request today on DBS issues in London we have copied in the Deputy Mayor, DBS and TFL.

We cannot continue to see drivers penalised by others failings.

Hello Mr. Greenhalgh,

I am writing with alacrity to ask you to urgently address the issues surrounding extraordinary delays that individuals are facing in receiving DBS responses in a timely fashion.

Regardless of a move to Sidcup the fact remains delays are ongoing which affect licencing authorities such as TFL and DBS who receive complaints about service levels when I am advised it is more due to lack of civilian staff to deal with the weight of requests.

Whilst future delays can be obfuscated by arranging for an on-going check to be in place these are not made clear to those applying which would of course alleviate the strain in the future.

That aside professional drivers are especially at risk due to many being self-employed.

You will no doubt be unaware of the fact a Taxi driver and Professional driver who is self-employed has no direct access to benefits if they are unable to work.

If I was to lock the doors of an office your assistant uses they would still expect payment why would anyone assume a driver should see their income terminated because they have no way to work?

Please respond with a meaningful solution which gets drivers back to work as soon as possible.

I would add in closing this is not a political matter it is an economic issue.
